"3.34.2021~Solo, Sunrise Mtn/AFB, 9 Peak Extravaganza (CCW Loop). 10.25 miles, 4,500’ gain in 6:55hrs. The Minefield, The Triple, The Double, Coyote Skull, Sunrise Mtn. North Summit, Sunrise Mtn., 2,960’, Unity & Division Peaks. Gosh, that was an a$$ kicker. Trekking on carnivorous limestone for that many hours was punishing. My feet are pulverized. It was warm but with cool breezes but some sections in the valley were hot. The wind diminished in the afternoon, so I eventually had to ration my 1.5 liters of water. Stunning area! "This is actually a very difficult peak. Heading along the knife edge is not for the faint of heart. The area, though stark, is full of desert beauty. Aside from seeing lots of ordinary lizards, I saw a turkey vulture, an eagle and several chipmunks. Bring plenty of water and the hiking pole is a good idea, especially for stability heading down. Like most peaks in the southern Nevada area, there's plenty of scree. " — GMan • Apr 18, 2020
"Shin led me for my first time. It was so amazing. We went up the steep E side and traversed the ridge north to another high point then down a rough canyon for a loop. We saw a plastic giraffe, dead tortoise, lg screwdriver, natural window, broken Beacon, bone, scull bone parts and killer 360 views! I brought hot cafe mocha's and cinnamon rolls for a summit snack. We finished in the dark. Mild winter temps. " — paula.raimondi • Dec 28, 2016
"We took the SW Ridge up to the summit, then descended the steep south face. Perfect weather. Nice, short Easter hike! 5.2 miles r/t with 2000 feet of gain. Saw the same baby rattlesnake that we saw yesterday!" — Kevin • Mar 27, 2016
