"It was entirely predictable what would happen. I mean, it was a singletrack through grassy meadows on the hottest day of the spring so far (90s). Pre-hydrated and then ran to the summit at a slow pace. Running down even the slight breeze wasn't enough to cool me down, instead it just lifted water from my body faster. Rounding the last switchback, about 100 yards from the car, there it was -- a rattler lying in the middle of the singletrack, just hanging out with no intention of moving. There was no other way to go, so I just waited it out for 10 min until the snake slithered off the side. Then in a blur of adrenaline I sprinted by, never looking back.
