"Drove a lot and open and closed a lot of gates on the farm. Eventually made it to the top with Kompasberg at the background. I wish I had the time to climbed that one as well. Next time

"Second climb of the rather non-descript hill - this time from the Schanskraal side. This adds a lot of traveling to the day and it is really is not as attractive as the other approach from the South." — edshuttleworth • Jul 31, 2021
"How it got its nsme: 13 Nov 1847, during the 7th Frontier War, five British officers were attacked and killed by Xhosa warriors on Moordenaar’s Kop (translated "Murders Hill")" — julian-LetsHike • May 23, 2021
"A 7 hour hike from the the Stone Mountain Lodge on the Kleinrivier property. We aimed for the saddle at the head of Chase's kloof - we went up by the rocky ridge to the West of the peak and descended the grassier slope straight from the summit. Quite thick bundu in the kloofs - a tough hike but not impossible." — edshuttleworth • Nov 24, 2020
"The wind was forecast to gust up to 100km.ph but we decided to attempt it and give the mountain our best shot.
The wind speed increased significantly as we gained altitude, exacerbated by the northerly direction which funnels the wind over the ridge line on the approach. As we approached the summit the wind was at a sustained (estimated) 100km/ph with even stronger gusts. (My trekking pole flew at a sustained 90 degrees). We were reduced to effectively crawling up the mountain and up a scramble with 100m altitude to go we decided that it had become far too risky to push on as steeper cliff face loomed and the knowledge of a hiker who was blown off the mountain in 2019 sat in the back of our minds.
I'd recommend not climbing Kompasberg if high winds are predicted, even if you are an experienced hiker, it can become extremely dangerous on the ridge line. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Sep 13, 2020
