Nobody reported hiking or climbing this mountain. Because of this, it was exploratory trip. The most difficult part was to find an appropriate road. Turn off is located on the Utah highway 20 between mile post 6 and 7. Take this dirty road. If after the cattle guard you will see sign about wild gooses – you are on the right road. Drive approximately 3.3 miles and park on the right side of the road before the next cattle guard. It can be made by the regular passenger car during the dry weather conditions.
From here, pass cattle guard, turn right and start moving to the East toward drainage. After about 30 minutes of cross country bush-walking, after you will pass read rocks on the left slope, climb summit on right slope of the drainage. From here- follow the ridge, and you will see road on the left. This road will bring you to the highest point – Showalter Peak. It was windy on the summit, but it was possible to find place for hide from the wind. It is about 1200 feet of elevation gain from the starting point.
I made descent in the darkness. It was not difficult, because you need make back track the same way as you ascent. Toll Mountain on the west will make this task easy. The only challenge will be to find your car, when you will come back to the dirty road. GPS will help you to move in the right direction.
It is possible to hike by the different route, but you will need high clearance 4WD car or jeep to get to the starting point.
