Sorry people driving up the mountain spoiled this climb. When I drove up and climbed to the summit I had only wonderful interactions with climbers. They even took pictures of me and helped me navigate safely. Of course, I was in my seventies so they cut me some slack. Perhaps they could see that I envied them because I knew the pleasures of High Peaks climbing were mostly behind me. Enjoy it while you can. Someday you may have to be satisfied with driving up too.

When you reach my age (77) you may change your mind about driving up. Being on a mountain regardless of how one has to go up is still worthwhile.

Years ago at ADK Loj a man from out west asked for a suggestion for a good peak to sample the Adirondacks. I suggested Phelps and later in the day he said it had been ideal.
