"I couldn't figure out Kane's description, which seems to be everyone's issue haha. Went pretty much straight up the main gully/drainage and then through a weakness/chimney where the main ends at the massive cliffband guarding the summit block. This is the best part: 40-50m of sustained Class 3 to Class 4 scrambling with some exposure ("difficult scramble"). Where the chimney splits, I exited on climber's left climbing over a chokestone.
I descended the route I think Kane suggests for the ascent and didn't like it. It's better to go down the same way." — Taras • Aug 8, 2022
"We turned back at the summit block. My friend didn't feel comfortable on a very steep slope with verglas on frozen dirt and rock. It's not a scramble in the given conditions, at least Kane's ascent route." — Taras • Oct 3, 2021
"This damn thing is a slog.... lol. Its easy to find you way up initially but I got super lost in the cliff bands along the way up. By the time I corrected myself onto the right path I was running short on time for the day to continue to the summit. This place is truly a scramblers paradise though. Lines everywhere. As far as the eye can see. lol. " — Slogenstein • Jul 17, 2021
"Weather improved so decided on a "short" day and early start for Mt Whymper. Billy in casual mode didn't bring ice axe, crampons, or pants. Sun broke and warm on the way up a quick ascent of the avalanche path. As it got steeper the snow forced us left and then back right around cornices and leery of ridge cornices hanging above. Finally made it left to the ridge and up to summit. Incredible views of "new" mountains to the north and impressive Stanley, Beatrice, Ball looking very wintery to the south. Vermillion looked tiny in comparison. Storm looked in good condition. Descended down the ridge via cairns to the headwall then swung west into the gully and great snow plunging for 400m (should have brought skis). Then looked like easy walk thru blowdown to the highway ended up being bushwacking for an hour or more to finally dump out on highway. A four hour day that took almost 8 hours. Climbable but not really "moderate" scrambling. Great if you like snow though! Thanks Billy and Babette for a great day. 19 Kanes to go...
