Mount Vinson
Vinson Massif is the highest mountain in Antarctica and one of the Seven Summits. It is located about 750 miles from the South Pole. The highest point of the Massif is Mount Vinson, named in 2006. The massif lies in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, which stand above the Ronne Ice Shelf near the base of the Antarctic Peninsula. The vast majority of climbs to the summit have used the western side of the massif from the Branscomb Glacier. The climb of Vinson offers little technical difficulty beyond the usual hazards of travel in Antarctica, such as high winds and snowfall.
