"It was short notice and I never go out on Sundays, but it was a gorgeous summer day...so we scrambled Mount Coleman. Lots of scree slogging, some bushwhacking..
One to go! " — leigh-annewebster • Jul 23, 2023
"This was one of my favourites of the summer. The approach took us up from the Icefields Parkway via an excellent trail and numerous switchbacks to the beautiful Sunset Meadows area. We followed the trail a bit further before cutting across the meadows towards the approach gully. There was some light bushwhacking to find our way over to the creek in the gully and then we slogged our way up the seemingly endless gully to the col, at which point we had already ascended 1400m before the scrambling had even begun. We then scrambled up to the ridge, which had some recent snow on it and we cautiously worked our way through to the summit. On the way back we stumbled across the twin falls in Sunset Meadows, which was a super-scenic spot for a break." — geoffhardy • Aug 29, 2021
"This "scramble" involves 99,999% of hiking or scree slogging and 0,001% of actual scrambling between the false and true summit. Class III climb near the summit. The "difficult" rating comes probably from a couple of steps with the terrific drop on the east side of the mountain towards the base of the glacier. Overall, this mountain feels much easier than many Kane "moderates" such as Big Sister or Shark.
Glorious views from the top justify the slog. Highly recommended for the scenery only." — Taras • Sep 5, 2020
"First time up the valley. Incredible views and Iceland like creeks and waterfalls in the meadows. 450m firm snow up the drainage and 100m snow to summit ridge. Cornice constrained to north side until final notch which had metres more snow than other August pictures. Cut direct line on descent to Sunset Lookout with some more bushwacking. Weather came in as we descended. 10.5 hr day. 13 to go...

"Started up Sunset Pass. Broke from the trail past the campground and passed near small twin waterfalls. A bit of bushwhacking and then we gained the left side above the gully. We went on for a while, but then dropped down a bit and eventually gained the col. Pretty straight forward. I would rate it as moderate, I must have missed the difficult part." — BertB • Aug 1, 2016
"After a night approach to establish a basecamp at Norman Lake Backcountry Campground, five members of the University of Alberta Outdoors Club succesfully summited Mount Coleman via the southwest col." — Steven-Noel • Sep 20, 2014
