"The north facing viewpoint of Lake Superior about 300 feet from the treed-in summit makes the back jarring drive to this remote state HP nearly worthwhile. Was considering going to Mt. Curwood also but figured I had put myself and the jeep through enough abuse for one day." — SteveM_StickMan • Oct 10, 2022
"do not follow the alltrails/google directions to this highpoint. You will end up on roads you really dont need to be on .
Uneventful highpoint, beautiful surrounding area . " — puddlepirate • Jul 28, 2020

"As part of a 16 or 17 state highpoint blitz of the Northeast this August while working remotely 8 hrs a day from various Starbucks.
#16 in the last 10 days to clean up the USA Northeast...it was a 14 hr drive from Mt Marcy in NY (ascended Sunday morning). I took in the Picture Rocks National Lakeshore and amazing Sable Dunes on the way and then worked at Starbucks in Marquette. After the work day, I went again some online wisdom and followed Google Maps which seem to have the logging roads nailed earlier in the morning. This was a slow 1.5 hr approach on some logging roads that are tame compared to the west but my all-season tires that have far too little tread left made me wonder if I would get a flat on my last peak and have to figure out a way to get out of this logging road maze. So slow and steady and Google got me almost all the way there except the last few roads before I made a calculated judgement between Google and my car GPS. The trick was I was coming in from the East (Marquette) whereas most people and the instructions online come from the West as most people do Timms Hill in Wisconsin and then drive here. Anyhow, after backing up one narrow sandy logging road I wen..." — alexjoseph • Aug 12, 2019
"Highpointers Club gathering on the summit during the annual konvention which was held in L'Anse, Michigan this year marking 33 years since the first club get together also held in L'Anse. Three of the original 50 state completers were able to attend which was pretty cool!" — StoneMan • Jul 27, 2019
"Headed up to the summit to see what kind of shape the road was in and check out the extended parking area that Weyerhauser put in to accommodate more visitors. There is also a new one and three quarter mile hiking trail to the summit." — StoneMan • Jul 25, 2019
"Drove back out to Mt. Arvon! This time not in my own car, but the road had been grated since I visited about 6 weeks before, and was in much better shape. What was truly exciting was the 20-or-so-mile drive out a different way via logging roads. That was interesting...!" — psychikingjes • Jul 5, 2019
"So glad that I brought Galahad (my trusty jeep) on this cross-country journey! It was raining and cold up in the UP (upper peninsula of Michigan), and the logging road to Mt. Arvon was very muddy and deeply rutted. No problem for Galahad with 4WD and all-terrain tires, but a rental passenger car wouldn't have been able to get up there. We drove to the top, as Joe isn't that fond of hiking, and it was very wet and muddy. Things that Joe is also not fond of... Google had accurate directions to the high point. We also had a backup book, just in case. The road is well-signed now. High point #18 for me and #3 for Joe!" — psychikingjes • May 18, 2019
"Repeat visit to a state highpoint. The new logging outfit is doing a great job of maintaining the approach road so regular vehicles can easily drive up to the parking area next to the summit." — StoneMan • Aug 26, 2016
"At midnight on July 1, 1991, 5 climbers, Pete Allard, Jim Grace, Shaun Lacher, David Sandway and myself, Dennis Stewart, took their first step off the summit of Mount Rainier and began a climbing marathon to reach the highest point in each of the 48 contiguous states in one calendar month. During the month of July in 1991, the team hiked over 250 miles, climbed over 14 vertical miles and drove over 14,000 miles. Their total time (summit to summit) was 30 days, 10 hours and 52 minutes. All 5 members of the climbing team reached every summit during the month long expedition. Mount Arvon was the 36th peak climbed on this record breaking trip, which got the team recognition in Guinness Book of Records. It was a difficult nighttime ascent bushwhacking from the south following a compass heading on each other's headlamps in the dark through the forest. We summited at 2:00AM." — Stewy • Jul 18, 1991
