I was hiking with a friend when we came across an old memorial dedicated to the 300 Fox men, woman and children who were captured, tortured and murdered there by the French army in 1730. The memorial was placed there at the end of the 19th century but by the 1970's it was learned that the location was likely further South/East on the Fox river though no one knows for sure. They were the tribe the Fox river was named to commemorate.
