"This should've been a pleasant, enjoyable hike. Unfortunately, there were people shooting guns all around me, all day. It really stressed me out. I had hoped to go up Stocker too, but I just wanted to get out of there. The lichen covered rock on Pigs in Zen was wet & very slick. Luckily, everything was dried out by the time I got to Lonesome. Very pretty area, but the shooting really ruined it for me. Some of it sounded like machine guns. It sounded like a war zone. One person was shooting less than 100 feet from the main road into Nelson & very near where I parked. I descended Lonesome & went back a very pretty canyon. There were even big oak trees back there! Maybe someday I'll comeback for Stocker and/or some of the other stuff around there, but frankly, there are places just as pretty with no shooting." — StudioHoodoo • Feb 23, 2020
"Harlan let me tag along on his hike today in the Eldorado Wilderness. We Bagged 3 Cool Peaks including the Wilderness Highpoint. Lonesome Peak, Pigs in Zen and Mount Stocker. This is a Beautiful rugged area that I always see from BC but have never visited. Amazing trek. " — paula.raimondi • Dec 12, 2017
"The forecast was for freezing temps with 25-30mph winds everywhere. Mike & I wanted to do something, so we crossed our fingers that the Nelson area might be a little better than everywhere else. Well, it was cold & windy there too! We still bagged a few peaks in the morning, then bailed early. Headed up the NW slope to the top of Arch Back (there is a great arch up there!), then back to the car. We drove another mile up the road, then ascended Pigs In Zen Peak via the West slope, descended to the east & went up the south ridge to Lonesome Peak before descending back down the east face & looping back around the north side of PIZ back to the car. Very windy & cold!!" — Kevin • Dec 26, 2015
