"A short walk from the Prosciuttificio Reale, head along track to the two buildings run by the water company. At the end of the track is a barrier, squeeze through this and then head right up. The top is just beyond the barbed wire. Not great in terms of access but this hill could be taken in as part of a Bassiano ring I've walked before. Great views of the bigger hills." — vygodski • Apr 12, 2024
"From Pian della Fagetta going a little up the road first (becomes excluded to vehicles 14th April to 14th Oct) took the same route I took to Monte Capreo. Rocky at first. Then a long gradual walk up small valley to the sella at the top of the ravine - essentially that between Monte Capreo and Ardicara. This I think is called Sella Mezzavalle, but it is a bit confusing. The Sella, i.e. the saddle between Ardicara and Semprevisa (my next objective, is actually the iconic outline of these hills as seen from Latina.) But anyway, before arriving at the 1350m or so junction one passes a fountain, which was dry but there might be a spring there. Beyond this there is a more direct route to the Sella (between Semprevisa and Ardicara). It wasn't really clear to me where this was, and I think there are a couple of options for a bit of a short cut. However I was happy to get to the junction sella of Mezzavalle (Capreo/Ardicara) to help orientate for the rest of the hike. From here there is something of change of direction to work oneself somewhat around the bottom of Ardicara to the Sella. I took this higher than the established path. Then to reach Ardicara curled around to the Bassiano side a..." — vygodski • Apr 5, 2024
"From Ardicara. Wasn't sure whether to take this on or not. Eventually judged the going was ok and had enough time. There is a gradual descent from Ardicara westwards. Tricky in places and generally best to stick to non exposed part of the hill. There are no path markings but it should be obvious where one needs to go. The west end of Ardicara is the point you need to decide your descent. We overshot the recommended point, which basically skirts down the treeline. Thus went more directly west towards this hill. You drop some 150m here and didn't fancy the return. So after climbing what one is now sure is belvedere (and wishing one had more time to go to the western end of it), the plan was to maintain as much height as possible and skirt around the west end of Ardicara to take the path parallel to its north side to return to sella mezzavalle. This was effectuated successfully. Not great going, being on a slope and traversing around 3 or 4 spurs of this hill, but maintaining height of around 1250m to eventually meet path eastwards, and on and back down." — vygodski • Apr 5, 2024
"Walking due east from Fontanile Canai, on a steadily rising path in the direction of Monte Alto. The path splits off and faint red paint splodges take you south. I didn't see the turn off to the path marked on the map and perhaps overshot it. I was looking for the cave, I think, marked on the map. At any rate, the hill to be climbed is fairly obviously always on the right, and I think I found the path of least resistance up, although it was still steep in places. The top of the hill has a large crater and three prominences, the one with the cairn apparently the highest, but little in it. From here, though no path marked on map (didn't stop me before), headed north keeping the high ground and followed the ridge as it began to veer west. Here there are massive, impressive rock formations. I dropped into the valley descending west west north, until coming to the Fossile where an info sign explains several fossils have been found. This is a very quiet, sheltered, leaf-covered area. Here a very steep descend north, vaguely along a wide zig zag, takes you to a more established path and a natural spring. A little further along is a cave which has a perhaps man-made channel of an entrance ..." — vygodski • Mar 25, 2024
"Along the track at the bottom of Ranero to where it ends at the beginning of a field. Crossing the grass, dropping down and following quite a steep track up, to the saddle of this and Occhio di Bove. Then on to the latter. Battery died, so no pics." — vygodski • Mar 13, 2024
