"Scene of battles between Germans and partisans preceding the Marzabotta massacre and subsequently between Germans and Allied soldiers from South Africa. There are trenches and dug outs preserved on this hill which formed part of the German front. Guidance says not to stray from path in case of explosives. It is a little less steep than neighbouring Monte Sole." — vygodski • Jul 16, 2022
"I've been wanting to visit this place for a couple of years since reading about the terrible massacre perpetrated there by German soldiers against partisans and innocent civilians. Areas of the village and particular sites have been respectfully preserved in an understated way. The climb is relatively short and steep. There is a memorial pillar on the top of Monte Sole itself. The hill was occupied by the Germans when met with the Allied advance. There is a photo of it showing it being hit by artillery fire." — vygodski • Jul 16, 2022
