Words cannot describe the majestic beauty of this magical place. We left the trailhead and made our way through the forest. There were a couple of huge fallen trees that were blocking the trail in a couple of places, and I was beginning to wonder what was in store for us. After these initial "roadblocks", the trail was easy to follow and we enjoyed the relatively short trip through the woods. Upon exiting the forest, we walked through what I called "Fern gully" and got our first glimpse of the amazing and steep meadow full of blooming wildflowers (Sibley Creek Valley). We continued up the switch-backs and my senses were assaulted by the intoxicating bouquet which seemed to rejuvenate my already weary legs. Before long, we had ascended the long switch-backs and stopped for a quick bite to eat. As we refueled, a Hoary Marmot was whistling from a rocky outcropping a little above us. It seemed to be letting us, and the world, know that he wasn't fond of our presence. The flies were fierce, so we didn't stay put for too long.

The next section of the trail was easier going and the views kept getting better and better. The cascading water never seemed to end and after enjoying some great views of Snow King Mt. (among others) we headed toward our goal. Soon our destination was in sight. My dog, Tucker, enjoyed the snow-fields and rolled around in it as we marveled at the pink algae that had made it's home there. Hidden Lake and the surrounding mountains took my breath away, and although the lookout was so close, we lingered on the ridge and admired the splendor. The scramble to the lookout was easier than expected and the cairns along the route helped us find the correct path.

The lookout was empty and I was looking forward to staying the night. A lot of love has gone into this place and I wish I would have had more time to myself to really appreciate it. Twenty-five minutes after we arrived, a couple from Tacoma, WA got there and it was clear that they had plans on staying as well. My friend and I agreed that we would take the floor and the couple could sleep in the bed. We watched the sunset and had a great dinner. Baker, Glacier Peak, and El Dorado were magnificent. I got up early to watch the sunrise above Hidden Lake and after some coffee, we said our goodbyes and made our way to the other summit.

I hope to be back to enjoy the Fall colors before the snow comes and perhaps stay the night... but on a weekday so we can have the lookout to ourselves. This was probably one of the most beautiful hikes/climbs I've ever been on! I Love this place!!!
