"Set off from camp at 2am in order to reach the summit for sunrise. At 4am, there was an earthquake (magnitude 7.3 although the epicentre was 50 miles away), which shook the mountain and stopped everyone in their tracks for 20 seconds" — IsaacParkin • Aug 29, 2023
"Ascended via Baturraden track and descended via Guci permadi track. Completed in 1 day, 17 hours.
Ascended at a moderate pace with adequate breaks, descent was fast.
Topped out on puncak Soerano, sign at top says 3427m, same as puncak Slamet to the east. However 1 map I looked at showed soerano at 3427m and slamet at 3436m. Whatever it is, its a small difference. " — AidanAstwood • May 22, 2023
"Straightforward walk up the besakih trail.
High quality trail, by my New Zealand standards anyway. Only a little exposure hazard at summit by crater. Frequent thunderstorms in the afternoon. 12 hours up and down. 7am to 7pm.
Used a guide, whilst the trail is very safe for solo travel, for cultural and local economic reasons, just played it safe and took one. " — AidanAstwood • May 2, 2023
"Indonesia. We stayed on Gili Air a couple of days before going to Senaru village on mainland Lombok. The monsoon season started and we were not able to see the summit from the islands during the days before. Therefore we decided not to climb the volcano as originally planned but to visit Sendang Gila and Tiu Kelep waterfalls and ride a loop with a rental scooter in northwest Lombok." — Pieter • Mar 9, 2020
"The most extreeme hiking i've ever done.
Thousand of earthworms. Some of them are dead and smell very fishy.
Met with Kopaska (Indonesian's navy special force) who are training there. Awakened in the early morning with the blast of geranate. Boom!
Peak to Bremi : Rain storm, slippery track, muddy, flood, and kissed by leeches.
5 days 4 nights full of challenges (and experiences)." — sigitaji • Dec 26, 2017
