"Last leg of day 2 - we entered Shenandoah NP from the south and took Skyline Drive to BFM Trail where we had a quick car lunch then did this fantastic scramble out and back. The kids and I love it; Beth = not so much. There were a few exposed areas where she got pretty frantic and ended up taking the lower bypass route back to the car. Good times were had by 'most'." — wiweasel • Apr 6, 2023
"Short but enjoyable scramble from the Bearfence trailhead parking lot. The true summit is wooded and not much by the way of views. There are however excellent views to be had along the main scrambling section. This was my second scramble of the day following a full climb of Old Rag. Tackling both of these popular Shenandoah peaks in one day made for a nice variety of climbing experiences. Old Rag features long sections of rounded out granite that one can hop about on in many areas, whereas Bearfence has jagged ridges of greenstone that require a bit more of a crawl. All in all, this was a great climb to end a day with." — tylerdelia • Nov 9, 2019
"Scrambled over Bearfence Mountain with Weaver during a long trail run. Outstanding 360 degree panorama makes this one of the best climbs in Shenandoah National Park. I would consider this to be Old Rag's little brother. Although a short jaunt to the top, the scrambling is a blast. " — runshigleyrun • Jan 15, 2018
"One of the best hikes in the park. I've hiked this many times. Amazing view. You have to scramble a bit but if you are even reasonably fit, you can do it. Hiked on this date with my favorite brother Tom and Chad and Brock." — LynnD • May 31, 2017
