"This was my third peak of the day after doing N. and S. Franklin in El Paso. There were a few other people on the trail, but they were just heading to the trail crest and not the summit. From trail crest there was another trail leading north to the summit. I lost it - or it disappeared - in the middle of the climb on a rockier section, but I picked it back up again before the final section to the summit. It was a great day with great views, although some of the further peaks, such as Sierra Blanca to the northeast, were not visible due to the haze. A great hike to do if you are in Las Cruces. "Just had an amazing day in the Organ Mountains hiking to the summit of Baylor Peak. I took the Baylor Pass trail from the East Side (Aguirre Springs Recreation area / Campground). Parking from this trail head was $5.00 per day. The trail is an easy hike up to the saddle on the ridge line between Baylor Peak and the Rabbits ears. From the Aguirre Springs trail head is almost exactly 2miles. From there you head north up the ridge line to the summit. There are varying heard paths with Cairns marking the way in places. Once at the summit I took out my Iphone to get an elevation reading. I did this because there is a discrepancy between what Peakery.com and Summitpost.org report the peak being. My reading at the summit was 7,707' with an accuracy of plus or minus 13 feet. My reading was less than Summitpost.org but if you take into consideration the accuracy of plus or minus 13 feet if falls in line with what Summitpost.org has as the summit elevation of 7,721'. So with that I believe that Summitpost.org has the more accurate listing of the two sites. I will try and update it on here if I can. I have not made the summit starting from the West (Dripping Springs Trailhead) but..." — jouv236 • Apr 30, 2016
