"Started out at Alivio Tourist Park and made our first mistake by punching Telstra Tower Black Mountain into Google and it started sending us up the mountain by road. We were fifteen minutes into the walk when we realised this. Take two. Started on Belconnen Way at Fairfax St, and headed west until we saw a sign for Black Mountain Nature Reserve and saw a track entering the bush. We took this track and quickly came to an intersection and crossed over the Powerline Track and kept heading southwest. We came to another intersection and turned southeast (left) onto Link Track and followed this until it terminated at Callitris Track and headed southwest and then south to another cross intersection and kept heading south. The track then starts to steepen for the last 600m or so. We then just followed the track around the summit until it pops out just near the summit marker. " — Julian4077 • Jan 20, 2022
"Fantastic loop walk from Orange Thorn Cres. Went left at the water tank and followed the creek. Lots of rain recently so the creek was flowing and there were a couple of little waterfalls (watch your footing!). Off trail until the main fire trail up to Mt Rob Roy trig, then across to Big Monks Trig (also off trail, lots of thistles, gorgeous views though)." — kjw • Oct 18, 2020
"Mistakenly tried to get to the top from the old quarry road, which is now heavily gated (wasn't a few years ago). Followed the fence line to the summit - it is only accessible by jumping the fence. Returned via firetrail and centenary trail." — kjw • Sep 2, 2020
"Entered the reserve from weatherburn street and headed right along the fire trail. Off track to the summit - found a funny little fort and a rock pile. Headed directly over to peak 667m from there (off and on trail)." — kjw • Aug 19, 2020
"Monday morning arboretum adventures. Started at the wide brown land sculpture and walked off trail to the start of the dairy farmers hill walk, then up to the lookout. And then back via the visitors centre and the trail up to the wide brown land sculpture. Gorgeous day." — kjw • Aug 17, 2020
