33 peaks above 3500 ft in the Catskills of New York. To be officially recognized by the Catskill 3500 Club, you must climb Slide, Blackhead, Balsam and Panther mountains again in winter. Only 2 hrs and change from the heart of NYC! Note: Doubletop and Graham, both over 3500 ft, were removed from the challenge in 2020 because the landowner permanently closed these peaks to the public. "Roughly 20 hikers affiliated with Hikers Anonymous met at the Spruceton TH for a loop hike of SW Hunter and Hunter. The occasion was to celebrate Mimi’s( aka Cream Puff) 1260 or third 420 Grid on the summit of Hunter. Two folks, Connie and Paul, took the onesie option of doing just Hunter mtn via the Spruceton trail. Tom and myself brought our wives and Sherri encouraged her two young sons join us and get two peaks they need for their first round of the Cat35. Also in the party was the legend herself and my long-time hiking partner Marguerite(aka Itty Bitty). She is nearing the completion of her own 840 Grid at the youthful age of 83 and still providing an example for all of us youngsters(!).
It was a casual chat-fest hike to SW Hunter via the Devils Path and old rail bed. Old friends catching up on hikes past and present and others meeting each other for the first time and finding out who is behind that alias. Once most folks reached the canister on SWH and signed in it was time to take more group photos both serious and silly. On to the Hunter mountain summit, peak number 1260 for Mimi.
At the summit with the fire tower as background we formed the classic arch of trekking..." — Nimblefoot • May 26, 2024

"Tony organized a Spruceton Straightshot which is a traverse of Sherrill, North Dome and West Kill. This turned out to be an all guys hike and it was a new hike for four of them, only Tom M. and myself have done it a number of times. We chose to go from Shaft road to Spruceton road so as to get the bushwhacking(herd paths) done first and finish at the view down below the summit of West Kill.
On our climb of Sherrill we kept hearing thunder in the distance which led to a light rain making us totally soaked by the time we reached the canister. Out came the rain jackets, to stay a little warmer, for our hike over to North Dome. By the the time we reached the next canister the rain let up and the sky lightened up so off came the jackets so they could ride in the packs for the remainder of the day.
Onto the dreaded bushwhack down to the Devils Path for a trail hike up to St Anne’s and all the way up to the West Kill sign( the cairn has been knocked over again). Some group photos with the sign then down to the view(Bucks Ridge) for more lunch/snacks and Doug to experience a new view after raising his peak total to 15 Cat 35s. We lucked out to have the rain in the AM then sunny for..." — Nimblefoot • May 23, 2024
